Belgium defeated Australia 7-6 in a dramatic shootout to win the Men's Rabobank Hockey World League Semi-Final in Rotterdam. With both sides tied after five shots it went to sudden death. Simon Gougnard in for the injured Loick Luypaert kept his nerve to slot past Andrew Charter on the ninth penalty. Chris Ciriello shot wide on his attempt to give Belgium the victory. India had got the better of Belgium in a group match of the Four-Nations Invitational in January this year, winning 5-4 in a thriller, but lost in finals of both legs of the same tournament. India's biggest victory against the Belgians, recently, was in the quarterfinal of the HWL Final in December last year when both teams were locked 3-3 at the end of regulation time with India prevailing in the shootout.
