Survival, Axe or Big Knife?, Surprise Answer

Survival, Axe or Big Knife?, Surprise Answer. The Estwing E3-R Rigger's Axe may be your best survival tool. It's always been a debate in 'survival circles': 'What is better? A small axe or a large knife in a survival situation. The Estwing E3-R Rigger's Axe has several advantages over other axes and survival tools.. One is that the Estwing E3-R Rigger's Axe is 16 3/4 inches long which is 3 inches to 5 inches longer than most small camp axes yet the The Estwing E3-R Rigger's Axe is still a lightweight axe , a compact axe (ax) and an incredibly strong ax. Since the entire axe head and axe handle is all one piece forged tool steel, it's very unlikely you'll ever break this axe even under the most demanding survival situation. This Estwing Riggers Axe and hammer is very well designed so that you won't tire as easily using this survival tool all day. The shock absorption handle is also another great feature of this axe. Since the entire axe and handle is all one piece forged tool steel, you have extremely good over-strike protection as it will be very difficult to damage or break this solid forged tool steel axe handle. The shape of this axe head (Estwing Riggers Axe) makes for an axe head that is easily as sharp as a quality large knife. Estwing axes are easy to sharpen too, plus the forged tool steel in this axe is fairly resistant to rust, but since it's still not stainless steel but rather a high quality tool carbon steel you can use your firestarter with this axe. A firestarter won't work with stainless steel, which is a serious downside of stainless steel. Another excellent feature of the Estwing Riggers axe is that it has a true hammer and a nail puller. You might not thing you'd come across used nails in a 'survival situation' but in today's modern times there is often old broken structures or items dumped deep in the woods that might have some nails. In that case the nail puller would come in extremely handy, as also a real hammer head. Another advantage of an axe with a handle that can't melt or burn in a fire, in it can be used as a small cooking surface, if you are careful. You could do this with a large knife too but an axe with a 16 3/4 inch tool steel handle would work a lot better. Another great bonus is that the Estwing Riggers Axe is Made in the USA.

GERBER MP1 MULTI-PLIER - Full review of an expensive multi-tool

Gerber MP1 Multi-Plier : Emergency Upgrade ! : . This multi-tool is expensive for what it offers. Mental aberration, Gerber does not even offer the kit of bits and the sheath that would go with (the sheath and the kit of bits of the Center-Drive) !!! The MP1 is a multi-tool for big efforts and the materials that constitute it are of quality. But the MP1 is poorly equipped, no saw, no file, no scissors, no awl and return to the opening remarks. The blade called "Utility / scraper blade" is not sharp, no interest. The tool called "Medium flathead driver / Bottle opener" is of interest that Gerber does not even indicate on its descriptive sketch, the function "pry bar" ... but a lever not indented for the function pull-nail (see the Center-Drive). If the hands of the MP1 open and close very well, they present, especially in the closed position, an unpleasant game and sound in vertical stress; too much play in the pliers axis or lack of a device at the end of the hands preventing relative movements. The bit holder is very badly held in the stowed position!!! The assembly by Torx screw, it is better not to touch it, there must be glue, otherwise rounding the fingerprints; therefore no adjustment possible. The average screwdriver tool can not be extracted directly! Unlike vante Gerber, the grip of the MP1 is not so comfortable because the pads in G10 are not sufficiently or not at all rounded. That's still a lot of design errors for such an expensive multi-tool. So the positives, there are anyway: - quality materials, beautiful appearance, - opening and closing hands very pleasant, - unlocking flexible tools, with one finger, - sizing for big efforts, - dedicated cable stripper, integrated into the pliers in an original way, - remote cable cutter on one side which allows a nut plug by the adjoining cell with stop function (anti-escape). The MP1 is sold more expensive than a Leatherman Wave + ... This is Gerber, interesting ideas but dubious design, inadequate on demand, excessive price, commercial failure and as often ... withdrawal of the catalog. Moreover, the MP1 is a commercial failure (very few reviews and views on Youtube, it does not interest).
