It spans over 60 countries and will cost over a trillion dollars. The plan is to make it easier for the world to trade with China, by funding roads, railways, pipelines, and other infrastructure projects in Asia and Africa. China is loaning trillions of dollars to any country that's willing to participate and it's been a big hit with the less democratic countries in the region. This makes the BRI a risky plan as well. But China is pushing forward because its goals are not strictly economic, they're also geopolitical. To truly understand the international conflicts and trends shaping our world you need a big-picture view. 국감 3일째... 여야, 소상공인•탈원전 공방
It's day 3 of the National Assembly's audit of the government.
During the inspection of the Ministry of SMEs,... rival parties clashed over the government's minimum wage hike.
The opposition parties argue the move forced small businesses to shut down or cut down on part-time workers because of the additional costs.
They say the government's push to shorten working hours is not helping either -- as this has resulted in smaller paychecks and a reluctance to spend money.
The ruling party acknowledged there have been unintended consequences,... but added, structural issues are to blame,... arguing that what's needed is a change in economic paradigm... even if there are negative effects along the way.
It also urged the opposition bloc to cooperate in passing bills to support small businesses.
At the science committee audit,... up for debate was the government's drive to pursue nuclear-free energy.
The opposition criticized the plans and pointing out potential side effects,... such as a decline in energy supply,... while the ruling party defended the initiative saying it's the path the country will have to take eventually and that it was taken in consideration of people's safety.
