OPEN ME FOR MORE TIPS! Can you count how many times I say "common" in this video? Yeah. First of all, I wanted to make a note bout the ILGWU tag. You CAN date a garment just by its ILGWU tag but it takes a lot more research and time, and it's something I couldn't cut down in a succinct way so I cut out most of what I said about the tags in this video. If you're curious to hear more about that, maybe I'll make a video about it! Otherwise, you can look here for more info on how the ILGWU tag changed throughout the years. https://vintagefashionguild.org/label-resource/ilgwu/ Garment tags before the 1940's are pretty rare, as up until the 1950's handmade garments were probably just as common if not more common than mail order or store purchased. And, I didn't even get into the fabrics of the eras because that's another video in and of itself. I also didn't get into the style of garment tags (aka the fonts used) because once again... that could become a video in and of itself. But, if fabrics and tag fonts are things you all would like to hear about, I can certainly try! But, these are the main things I look at when I am dating a vintage garment. It may seem like a lot of information all at once, but the longer you do it the quicker it is. These days, I can literally sniff out vintage and gauge a garment's age by the feel of the fabric. When you get down to it, vintage garments smell and feel different than their more modern post-80's counterparts!
